Drowning Victim Recovered On May 10th 2005 at approximately 11:15 P.M., members of the Ontario Provincial Police, Espanola Detachment, received a report of a possible drowning on the Spanish River in Massey.

On May 10th 2005 at approximately 11:15 P.M., members of the Ontario Provincial Police, Espanola Detachment, received a report of a possible drowning on the Spanish River in Massey. Police attended and the initial investigation revealed a man had waded into the river and did not return to shore.

Extensive searches were conducted by O.P.P. Marine Units as well as a ground search of the shore line. The services of the O.P.P. Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (U.S.R.U.) were requested. O.P.P. divers attended and located the victim at approximately 2:00 P.M. on May 11th. The victim has been identified as Joel SOLOMON, age 45, of Imperial Street in Massey.

A post mortem will be held in Sudbury on May 12th.

Search Ongoing

(Espanola, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police, Espanola Detachment responded to an Incident in Massey involving a male falling into the river at approximately 11:15 pm last night.

Officers from the Espanola Detachment as well as fire and ambulance crews attended and began a search of the area. The search continued through the night with negative results in locating this male. This morning members of the Emergency response team and the Underwater Search and Rescue Unit were called in to assist.

This investigation is ongoing and an updated news release will be forwarded once new information comes to light.

Boat Stolen From Backyard

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On May 10th, 2004 police attended a residence on Westhill Road in regards to a stolen boat. Investigation revealed that the 12-foot boat was in the back yard of the complainant and sometime during evening of May 9th and 2:00 p.m. on May 10th, 2005 unknown person(s) entered the back yard and removed the boat. The boat has a broken handle on the front, no plug and the trim is painted egg blue.
