Police Investigate Body Found

(Garden River First Nation Territory, Ontario) – The Ontario Provincial Police, in conjunction with the Garden River Detachment of the Anishinabek Police Service, is investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a man’s body on the Territory yesterday.

On Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at about 2:30 p.m. police were called to a building at an abandoned lumberyard on Hwy 17 in Garden River near the west border of the Territory. Officers discovered the body after they had been called to the area to investigate a complaint of people possibly drinking in the structure.

Police are treating the death as suspicious at this time. The identity of the deceased is not known at this time. An autopsy on the body will be conducted.

The investigation is being conducted by members of the Sault Ste. Marie OPP, under the direction of Detective Inspector Bernie Murphy of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. Anishinabek Police Service requested the OPP to conduct this investigation. Also assisting are members of the Batchawana First Nation Police.

Weekend Break and Enters Lead to Charges

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP have arrested a male in regards to the Break and Enters from this past weekend. Incidents occurred in the area of Taylor Boulevard, Gauthier Place, Hillside Dr. N. and Farrell Crescent.

Charged with the following is Wesley Bruce MAYNES (47) of Elliot Lake.

9 counts of Break and Enter
3 counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
1 count of Fail to Comply

MAYNES remains in custody. He is scheduled for a Bail Hearing in Sault Ste Marie.

Investigation continuing.
