IDENTITY OF THUNDER BAY MEN FOUND WITH DRUGS RELEASED Laird Twp, Ont., Sault Ste Marie OPP are now releasing the names of the two men found with just over sixteen pounds of marijuana yesterday. Yesterday at about 12:30 p.m.

Laird Twp, Ont., Sault Ste Marie OPP are now releasing the names of the two men found with just over sixteen pounds of marijuana yesterday.

Yesterday at about 12:30 p.m. an officer with the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment stopped a westbound vehicle for a speeding offence. Further investigation into the stop revealed just over sixteen pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of about $153,000.00.

Twenty one (21) year old Joseph SATENS, of Willard Avenue in Thunder Bay, Ontario is charged with one count of Possession of Drugs for the Purpose of Trafficking, Contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substance Act. Twenty two (22) year old Robert Fredrick BONEAR, of Hill Street in Thunder Bay, faces the same charge.

Both men are scheduled to appear in bail court this morning.


MISCHIEF TO THESSALON MEDICAL CLINIC

(Thessalon, Ontario) On Tuesday January 2, 2007 the East Algoma – Thessalon OPP were dispatched to attend at the Thessalon Medical Clinic located in Thessalon, Ontario regarding a mischief.

The Thessalon Medical Clinic had been closed for the holidays from Friday December 22, 2006 – Tuesday January 2, 2007. Sometime during that period unknown suspects threw a rock through a window.

The damage is estimated at $200.00.

ABANDONED BUILDING BURNS TO GROUND

(St. Joseph Island, Ontario) On January 1, 2007 at approximately 8:25 pm the East Algoma – Thessalon OPP were contacted regarding a fire on Hume Road in Richards Landing, St. Joseph Island, Ontario.

The building was an abandoned building, not currently being used. The building was completely destroyed in the fire.

There were no occupants of the building and no injuries.

The fire is still under investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police and the St. Joseph Island Fire Department.

AREA COTTAGES BROKEN INTO

(Plummer Additional Township, Ontario) On Thursday December 28, 2006 the East Algoma – Thessalon OPP arrested an individual on an outstanding warrant.

Matthew SMITH-SHUTTLEWORTH (19) of no fixed address was arrested and subsequently charged with 2 counts of Break and Enter.

The accused entered two cottages located on Round Lake Road and Carter Side Road in Plummer Additional Township, north of Bruce Mines, Ontario.

Alcohol was taken in the break and enters.

SMITH-SHUTTLEWORTH is scheduled to attend at Thessalon Court on Thursday February 8, 2007 to answer to the charges.

Two Thunder Bay men will appear in bail court this morning after being caught with just over 16 pounds of Marijuana in their vehicle.

Yesterday at about 12:30 p.m. an officer with the Sault Ste Marie Detachment was conducting radar patrols in Laird Township, east of Echo Bay. The officer clocked a westbound vehicle traveling over 120 km/h in a 90 km/h zone. The officer pulled the vehicle over and during the speeding investigation the officer made several observations about the occupants and the vehicle.

A further investigation at the side of the roadway revealed that the vehicle contained a quantity of illegal drugs. A further search of the car was conducted and a large quantity of marijuana was discovered. Police seized just over sixteen (16) pounds of marijuana from the vehicle. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be about $153,000. 00.

CRASH BLOCKS HWY AND SENDS ONE MAN TO SAULT HOSPITAL

Montreal River, Ont.,

An afternoon crash on Hwy 17 in Montreal River closed Hwy 17 yesterday afternoon for a short time and sent a Wawa man to Sault and Area Hospital.

Yesterday at about 1:30 p.m. a vehicle was traveling northbound on Hwy 17 in Montreal River. The vehicle crossed the centerline and into the southbound ditch where the car struck a rock cut. The car then came out of the ditch and came to rest in the middle of the highway.

Several passing truck drivers stopped at the scene and attempted to free the driver from the car. The driver was trapped in the vehicle and he had to be freed from the vehicle by fire department personnel.

The Fire Department personnel from the Batchawana and Goulais River Fire and Rescue eventually freed the driver from the vehicle. The driver, and lone occupant, was transported to Sault Area Hospital by ambulance. He was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police closed Hwy 17 at the crash site for a short time while fire and rescue personnel worked to free the man from the car. As a result of this collision seventy eight (78) year old Imre BOZSIK of Wawa, Ont., has been charged with Careless Driving. The vehicle was demolished and had to be towed from the scene.
