YOUR CONCERNS ABOUT THIS IMPAIRED DRIVER JUST MAY HAVE SAVED A LIFE

Heyden, Ont., A Goulais River woman was arrested yesterday morning just after 8:00 a.m. for Impaired Driving.

Just before 8:00 a.m. yesterday morning Sault Ste Marie OPP received a report of a vehicle eastbound on Hwy 556 in Heyden that was weaving all over the road. The caller indicated to police that the vehicle just made a u-turn and was headed back toward Hwy 17.

Police then received two other calls from motorists that the same vehicle was traveling on Hwy 17 and on more than one occasion just narrowly missed hitting oncoming traffic. As this vehicle approached the north city limits the driver lost control of the vehicle and ended up stuck in the snow bank on Hwy 17.

Officers arrived on the scene and the female driver was still behind the wheel trying to get the vehicle out of the snow bank. As the driver was being escorted back to the cruiser she lost her balance and fell against the cruiser and onto the ground. A check of the interior of the vehicle was conducted and officers found a full glass of wine in the center console of the vehicle. It appeared that none of the wine was spilled as she went into the snow bank.

She was brought back to the OPP detachment where she failed the Breathalyzer tests. Thirty three year old Jennifer VANBOERDONK, of Homestead Road in Goulais River, has been charged with Impaired Driving, Driving While Over the Legal Limit of .08

She was also issued a ticket for having open liquor in her vehicle. Her driver’s licence has also been suspended for the next 90 Days in compliance with the Automatic Drivers Licence Suspension program in Ontario.

OPP would like to thank all the motorists who took the time to call in this occurrence to the police. Your actions just may have saved a life yesterday.
