Sault Ste Marie OPP investigated a collision involving a deer in the area east of Sault Ste Marie.

Yesterday morning, at about 6:00, a person travelling to work in Thessalon struck a deer on Hwy 17 in Laird Township. The vehicle had considerable damage but the driver was able to continue on his way to work.

This particular deer appeared to be a very hardy specimen. The driver of the vehicle told police that the deer was last seen, at full speed, heading into the bush area beside the highway.

Sault Ste Marie OPP have experienced a noticeable increase in car/deer accidents this fall. Most of the collisions have been on Hwy 17 east of Sault Ste Marie. So far the only injuries have been to the deer. Damage to vehicles has ranged from insignificant to very severe.
