Garden River First Nation, Ont., Sault Ste Marie OPP are on the scene of a serious collision on Hwy 17 in the Garden River First Nation just east of Sault Ste Marie.

Preliminary reports from the scene indicate that a car and a transport have been involved in the collision. Two people from the car have been taken to Sault and Area Hospital with life threatening injuries.

Hwy 17 is now closed for an unknown period of time in both directions. There are no detours around the collision site.

Search Warrantr Results In Drug Seizure

(Little Current, On.) – On Tuesday the 13th December 05 members of the Manitoulin OPP assisted the U.C.C.M. First Nation Police Service in executing a drug search warrant on a vehicle attending Manitoulin Island. A search warrant was obtained on information received that a 1998 Blue Chevy Lumina was in possession of alleged drugs destined for Manitoulin Island. Officers from both Police Services observed the vehicle and it was stopped on Hwy 6 in Little Current by the swing bridge.

As a result of this traffic stop and search of the vehicle an alleged quantity of Cannabis Marijuana was seized and two occupants charged with drug criminal offenses. Charged with one count each of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking under the Controlled Drug and Substance Act is Samson TRUDEAU age 22 of the Wikwemikong First Nation also charged is Lindsey CARDINAL age 21 of the Wikemikong First Nation. Both suspects were taken into custody and released on a promise to appear for Gore Bay Criminal Court on Monday 30 January 2006 to answer to the said charges. Detective Constable Rendell McDonald of the UCCM Police Service is the investigating officer.

Fatal Workplace Accident Under Investigation

(Kirkland Lake, ON) – Kirkland Lake OPP and the Ministry of Labour are investigating a workplace accident that resulted in an employee being fatally injured. The accident took place at the Kirkland Lake Gold Incorporated - Number 3 Shaft. The mine is located two kilometres east of Swastika, Ontario. The incident occurred at approximately 8:00 a.m. on the 14th of December, 2005. Both the Kirkland Lake Fire Department and Kirkland Lake Ambulance Service attended and assisted at the scene.

The joint investigation into the cause of the accident continues.

HEYDEN BREAK AND ENTER

Heyden, Ont., Sault Ste Marie OPP are investigating a break and enter into a seasonal home on Heyden Lake.

Some time over the past four weeks thieves forced their way into the camp and took a solar panel and camera from the home. At this time the owner is unable to find anything else that is missing.

AND TODAY’S SAULT STE MARIE WORST DRIVER AWARD GOES TO

Sault Ste Marie, Ont.,Yesterday at about 5:30 p.m. an officer from the Sault OPP detachment was responding to a call east of the city. The officer was in a marked cruiser at the intersection of Black Road and McNabb Street in Sault Ste Marie.

As the officer was making a left turn off Black Road onto McNabb another vehicle cut across the lanes of traffic and turned in front on the cruiser cutting the officer off. Of course the vehicle was pulled over AND---- the driver had been drinking.

A roadside breath test indicated that the driver was just under the legal limit. A sixty nine year old Sault Ste Marie man had his driver licence suspended for the following 12 hours.

DVD Players Stolen

(Blind River, Ont.) Unknown culprits walked away with 4 DVD Players from a local business in Blind River on the 13th Dec.05.

The store manager noticed the missing items upon completing an inventory check in the store after another unrelated incident of possible theft. The four LCD DVD players were valued at just over $600.

Police have no suspects at this time and are asking the public for assistance in identifying the thieves.
