A loaded fuel truck spilled a small amount of its cargo when it rolled onto its side in a residential area of Heyden. The accident occurred at the intersection of Birch Grove Road and Trout Lake Road at about 1:00 p.m. yesterday.

The 15,000 litres of heating oil were pumped into a second truck by 6:30 p.m. and a tow truck pulled the stricken tanker from the ditch. Quick action by the Aweres Township Fire and Rescue prevented a more serious leak.

No one was injured. The investigation is continuing . No charges have been laid as yet.


R.I.D.E. CHECKS PRODUCE TESTS BUT NO CHARGES

Sault Ste Marie OPP continued with their Festive R.I.D.E checks again last night.

At about 11:30 p.m. officers set up a R.I.D.E. check on Hwy 556 in Heyden. Officers gave two motorist roadside breath tests and both drivers had readings under the allowable blood alcohol limit. No charges were laid in last nights R.I.D.E checks.
