Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste Marie and the District of Algoma are doubling their cash rewards during the month of May for all tips that help solve break and enters.

As an example, Sault Ste Marie OPP are investigating an attempted break and enter to the Goulais River Country Store on Hwy 17 in Goulais River. Sometime during the night a thief tried to force their way into the store but they were not successful.

If you know anything about this attempted break and enter, the three break and enters in the Batchawana area this past weekend or any other break and enter then Crime Stoppers will double their usual reward if your tip leads to an arrest.

EARLY MORNING SPEEDER CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED

A speeder that was pulled over early this morning got more than his usual ticket.

At about 3:00a.m. today, an O.P.P. officer on patrol clocked a pick-up truck at 131 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone. When the officer pulled the vehicle over he detected an odour of alcohol on the driver's breath.

The driver failed the roadside breathalyzer and was returned to the O.P.P. detachment for breathalyzer tests. He also failed the that test and was charged with impaired driving. He has also had his drivers licence suspended for 90 days in accordance with the Automatic Drivers Licence Suspension program.

Twenty-year-old Steven Doan of Sault Ste. Marie will appear in court on May 26 to answer to the charge.
