Earlier this week, a Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check in Wawa led to charges for a 31-year-old driver.

Shortly before 6 p.m. on Dec. 11, officers with the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Festive RIDE on Spruce Street in Wawa.

Multiple vehicles were stopped and officers conducted Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) tests on the drivers.

One driver failed the MAS test, which indicated the presence of alcohol in their system.

After further investigation, Kyle Funk of Wawa was arrested and charged with:

  • operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
