Two face trafficking charges in Elliot Lake

Police say they found numerous prescription pills, illegal drugs, drug related paraphernalia, and weapons

ELLIOT LAKE - On Mar. 7, 2017, at around 4:36 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a residence on Hillside Drive South in Elliot Lake to execute a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) warrant.

Members from the Community Drug Action Team (CDAT), East Algoma Crime Unit, Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) - Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), and uniform members were involved with the investigation.    

As a result of the warrant being executed, police found numerous prescription pills, illegal drugs, drug related paraphernalia, and weapons. 

15 grams of cannabis marijuana, 14 grams of cannabis marijuana resin (hashish), 215 methamphetamine pills, 1,054 Tylenol 3 pills, 220.5 percocet pills, approximately 4,200 illegal cigarettes, and $5,860 in cash was seized. 

The following people were charged:

 Jean Jacques Gingras, 62 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Oxycodone, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Codeine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking - Cannabis Marijuana, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking - Cannabis Marijuana - Resin, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the CC

Barbara Shortt, 59 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  •  Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  •  Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Oxycodone, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Codeine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking - Cannabis Marijuana, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking - Cannabis Marijuana - Resin, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the CC

The accused persons are to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ontario on May 2, 2017.
