Stolen Plates Recovered (Elliot Lake, Ont.) On September 4, 2005 police received information regarding a suspicious vehicle parked in the area of Hillside Drive South.
Stolen Plates Recovered

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On September 4, 2005 police received information regarding a suspicious vehicle parked in the area of Hillside Drive South. The information was checked and the licence plates were found to be stolen from Blind River on June 30th, 2005.

Police patrolled the area and located the vehicle driving down Hillside Drive South. Police then stopped the vehicle.

Charged with Possession of Stolen Property is Alain GOSSELIN (31) of Elliot Lake. GOSSELIN is scheduled to appear in court on October 4th, 2005.

Police Investigating Slashing Incident

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) Police attended the local hospital on September 5, 2005 in regards to a slashing incident. On scene police learned a male was receiving medical attention for non-life threatening injuries.

Investigation revealed that at approximately 4:30 p.m. the victim heard voices behind his residence on Hirshhorn Avenue and attended the area to ascertain what was happening. He observed 4 youths in the area. The victim requested the suspects leave the area to which they refused. One of the youths allegedly lunged at the victim cutting the victims left hand with an unknown weapon. The homeowner then left the area to tend to his injury.

Found Property

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On August 20th 2005 an officer located a packsack in the lobby of the detachment. It contained bathing suits, a towel and other swimming items. No ID was found in the bag.

Digital Camera and DVD Player Stolen

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On September 5, 2005 police attended a residence on Westhill Road in regards to a possible Break and Enter at a residence.

Investigation revealed that the homeowner went to visit a neighbour and left his home unattended. Upon his return he noticed a Magnasonic DVD player and a Vivitar digital camera missing.

Approximate value of the theft is $475.00.

Young Driver Charged in Vehicle Rollover

Tuesday 30 Aug 05 at 7:42 pm – Manitoulin OPP were called to a report of a vehicle rollover at Elliot Road & Hill Road in Carnarvon Township. Officers arrived to find a 1996 Dodge Pick up Truck in the ditch and on fire. The passenger in the vehicle received minor injuries. As a result of the investigation a 17 year-old young person has been charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act. Constable Jed Graham is the investigating officer.


Firearms Stolen in Cottage Break & Enter

On Tuesday 30 Aug 05 at 8:36 pm Manitoulin OPP responded to a report of a cottage break & enter located on Dial Road in Sandfield Township. Upon investigation it was learned that the main cottage and several outbuildings were entered and items taken. Forced entry was gained by kicking doors and breaking doors. It was learned that a .22 caliber rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun were removed along with tackle boxes. Also taken was a 300 Honda 4 wheeler ATV. There were some power tools stolen including two power drills skill saw, jigsaw and chainsaw. A scene of crime identification officer was called to the scene who was able to obtain physical evidence of the break & enter. Constable Jed Graham is the investigating officer and if anyone has any further information about this crime they are asked to call police or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Four Men Charged in Marijuana Grow Operation

On Wednesday 31 Aug 2005 at 5:32 pm Wikwemikong Tribal Police were notified of possible marijuana grow operation in a secluded cabin on the MAHZENAZING RIVER POINTE GRONDINE First Nation near Killarney, Ontario. Wikwemikong Tribal Officers along with Emergency Response Officers of the Ontario Provincial Police who were in Killarney searching for a missing woman responded the area and took four males into custody. As a result of the investigation a total of 130 suspected marijuana plants with a street value of $130,000 was seized along with growing materials. Charged with one count of cultivation of a controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act are Patrick THERRIEN age 23 of Sudbury, Ontario, Joel PROULX age 24 of Killarney, Ont., Matthew BROSSERAU age 23 of Estaire, Ont. and Sean TIMONEN age 22 of Sudbury, Ont. They were later released on a promise to appear with conditions. The investigation is being conducted by the Wikwemikong Tribal Police whose jurisdiction includes the MAHZENAZING RIVER POINTE GROUDINE First Nation with the Assistance of the Manitoulin OPP.

Island R.I.D.E. Check Recovers Stolen Vehicle

On Saturday the 03 Sept 05 at 8;00pm officers from the Manitoulin OPP along with Officers from the U.C.C.M. Police Service were conducting R.I.D.E. checks on Hwy 540 in Billings Township when a westbound U-HAUL cube van orange and white in colour entered the check. Upon questioning the driver and passenger it lead officers to conduct a further investigation where the driver gave an alleged false identity. Police were able to identify the driver and found that he was a prohibited driver for life. The female passenger also allegedly gave a false name and once identified it was found that she was wanted by the Greater Sudbury Police Service with two arrest warrants for theft. Upon checking the vehicle with U-Haul it was learned that this vehicle was reported stolen by the Sudbury Regional Police. As a result of this investigation the two subjects were arrested and held in custody. Charged with Possession of Stolen Property over $5000. Drive While Disqualified and Obstruct Police is Jeffery Joseph ANWHATTIN age 31 of Wikwemikong, Ont. Also charged with Possession of Stolen Property over $5000 and Obstruct Police is Sarah Bowerman-Jocko age 25 of the M’Chigeeng, Ont. Both were remanded into custody to appear in Gore Bay Bail court on Tuesday 06 Sept at 10:00 AM.

Theft Of Woodsplitter

(Desbarats, Ontario) On Saturday September 3, 2005 at approximate 6:15 pm the East Algoma – Thessalon OPP were contacted regarding the theft of a wood splitter. The wood splitter was being towed behind a vehicle when it broke down on Highway 17, east of Desbarats at Archibald Road.

The owner attempted to load it into the back of his truck but was unable to accomplish this due to the weight of the wood splitter. The owner left the wood splitter on the side of the road and returned home to get another trailer to load the wood splitter onto. When the owner returned to the scene a couple of hours later, the wood splitter had been removed.
