OFFICER FORCED TO SHOOT DOG
Heyden

A Sault O.P.P. officer was forced to shoot an aggressive stray dog in Heyden after the animal cornered the officer and the homeowner.

At about 5:00 last night a man arrived home in Heyden and let his dog out into his yard. His pet was met by a Mastiff/Pit Bull. The two dogs started to fight but the man managed to get his dog back into the house. The tray then started to bark and growl as it approached the man. He dropped his takeout dinner and ran for the garage to escape the dog.

The man then came out of the garage and attempted to frighten off the stray. He struck the animal with a stick, which caused it to back off temporarily but it did not leave the yard. The dog again became aggressive forcing the man to retreat to his house and call police.

The police arrived to find the stray still on the property and in the owner’s doghouse. As the officer and homeowner stood outside discussing the situation, the stray came out of the doghouse and, growling and barking, approached the two. There were no dog tags visible.

The animal continued toward the officer in a very aggressive manner forcing him back between the house and the garage. The officer then shot and killed the animal.

Later yesterday evening, a resident of the area called police and advised it was his dog.
