Drug Warrant Yields Results

Elliot Lake, Ont.

On the 20th October 2006 members of the North East Region Drug Enforcement Unit with assistance from the North East Region Crime Unit and Uniform Officers from East Algoma, Elliot Lake executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrant on a residence on Hillside Drive South, Elliot Lake.

As a result of the search Police seized a large quantity of Marihuana, Cocaine and Psilocybin (Magic Mushrooms) with a street value of $30,235.00.

Police also seized an undisclosed amount of cash along with evidence of Drug Trafficking.

Charged are: Peter S. WECKLEIN (age 51) of 117 Hillside Dr. S. Elliot Lake with:

-Possession Controlled Substance for Trafficking (Marihuana)
-Possession Controlled Substance for Trafficking (Cocaine)
-Possession Controlled Substance for Trafficking (Magic Mushrooms)
-Trafficking in Controlled Substance (Marihuana)
-Possession Controlled Substance (Cocaine)
-Possession Controlled Substance (Marihuana)

WECKLEIN was also charged under the Criminal Code of Canada for:
-Extortion
-Possession of Ammunition while Prohibited and
-Unauthorized Possession of Ammunition without a Licence.

WECKLIN IS IN CUSTODY IN SAULT STE MARIE AWAITING A BAIL HEARING.

ALSO CHARGED AS A RESULT OF THIS DRUG WARRANT IS:

Kayo Andrew KINOS (age 55) of 9 Elizabeth Walk Elliot Lake.
Angela PEARSON (age32) of 336 Willoughby Rd. Elliot Lake.
and Debbie SMYTHE (age 40) of 9 Elizabeth Walk Elliot Lake

All charged for:
-Possession Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Marihuana)
-Possession Controlled Substance (Cocaine)

KINOS, PEARSON and SMYTHE were released from custody to appear in Criminal Court in Elliot Lake on the 5th December 2006.

Deer Collisions on the Rise East of City

Sault Ste Marie OPP are warning motorists to be on the lookout for Deer as they have investigated three collisions in the past two days in MacDonald and Laird Townships. With the changing of the seasons the deer populations are entering into the Rut and are moving about more than normal. Motorist can expect an increased level of movement over the next month. As per usual all motorists in Northern Ontario need to be wary of animals on the Highway during the evening ours.
