BATCHAWANA CRIME SPREE Batchawana, Ont., Police are investigating several crimes that took place in the village of Batchawana late Sunday night and early Monday morning.

Police are investigating several crimes that took place in the village of Batchawana late Sunday night and early Monday morning.

Sometime during the darkened hours culprits forced their way into the Post Office in Batchawana and attacked the safe. They were successful in getting it open and stole the contents. The safe and the Post Office building were extensively damaged during the break and enter. An unknown quantity of cash, stamps and other valuables are reported missing.

Police also found a truck that was reported stolen from the City of Sault Ste. Marie in the parking lot of the post office.

As police were investigating these crimes, a visitor to the Batchawana area reported that his pick-up truck was stolen over night. The victim believes that sometime between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on Monday morning, his pick-up was stolen from a residence in Batchawana. The truck is a white 1999 ¾ ton Dodge pick up truck. The truck has a plow harness on the front and chrome rims. Michigan licence plate YJO 586.

ASSAULT ON WOMAN
Heyden, Ont.,

An assault on a Heyden woman on Monday evening sent her to Sault and Area Hospital and the accused to jail for the night.

Last night at about 7:00, police were called to Heyden after the accused called police about problems in the home.

The investigation revealed that the couple had a verbal disagreement that escalated to violence. The 47-year-old man allegedly struck the woman with a cupboard door. The victim was taken to Sault and Area Hospital where she was treated and released. The man was arrested at the scene and is being held in custody pending a bail hearing this morning. He faces one charge of Assault Causing Bodily Harm.


MISSING “YOUR BEST FRIEND” ????

Sault Ste. Marie O.P.P. was called to the McIntyre Road area over the weekend after a resident found a wandering dog in the area. The Sheppard /Collie mix was found in the area with it’s collar and leash still on.
