MANITOULIN MAN CHARGED WITH FIRST DEGREE MURDER

(Zhiibaahaasing First Nation, Manitoulin Island, Ont.) – Members of the United Chiefs and Council of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police Service, the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police and the OPP Northeast Region Crime Unit, are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman whose body was found at a Zhiibaahaasing First Nation residence on Manitoulin Island early Sunday morning.

On Sunday, November 27, 2005 at approximately 12:10 a.m. police responded to a call for service at the home. Upon arriving at the residence the female occupant was found deceased. She has been identified as 25-year-old Mary Ann Davis, of 304 Sagon Road, Zhiibaahaasing First Nation.

A post mortem examination was conducted in Sudbury on Monday November 28th, 2005 as a result of this examination the cause of death was from a gun shot wound.

As a result of this incident the common law spouse of Mary Ann Davis has been arrested and held in custody. Charged with one count of First Degree Murder is Brent Jeremy KELLS age 21 of 304 Sagon Road, Zhibaahaasing First Nation.

Mr. Kells appeared in Gore Bay Ontario Court of Justice on Monday the 28th November 2005 and was remanded into custody until Monday the 05th December 2005 for his next court appearance.

Driver Charged In Early Morning Crash

Batchawana Bay, Ont.,An Alberta man was charged under the Highway Traffic Act this morning after his car ended up off the highway in the bush.

At about 3:30 a.m. this morning the driver of the car was southbound on Hwy 17 just south of Batchawana Bay. The car left the roadway and traveled through the shoulder and into the bush line. The driver of the vehicle was not injured but a tow truck was required to remove the vehicle

Twenty year old Kyle WRIGHT of Edmonton, Alberta has been charged with Failing to Drive in Marked Lane contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.




Batchawana First Nation Territory, Ont., Sault Ste Marie OPP responded to a report of a fight between two women in the parking lot of the Rankin Arena yesterday.

Yesterday at about 3:00 p.m. a physical altercation occurred between two woman after a social event at the arena. The women were known to each other. The victim of the assault requested that no charges be laid against the aggressor.

Elder's Complex Break In

Batchawana First Nation Territory, Ont., The Batchawana First Nation Police are investigating a break and enter into the Elder’s Complex on Frontenac Street on the Territory.

At about 10:30 a.m. yesterday the Batchawana First Nation Police were advised that the complex had been illegally entered. It is unknown at this time just exactly what is missing. This investigation is still ongoing.
