CHARGES PENDING IN GARDEN RIVER COLLISION

OPP are continuing their investigation into the weekend collision on Hwy 17 that sent two people to Sault and Area Hospital.

So far the investigation has indicated that on Saturday at about 9:30 p.m. a van, crossed the centre line and sideswiped an eastbound pick up truck. The van then spun around and struck an eastbound Ford Ranger head on.

The driver of the van, 52-year-old Ken Stewart of Sault Ste Marie was admitted to Sault and Area Hospital with major injuries. The driver of the Ford Ranger, 33-year-old Martin Fremlin of Echo Bay was treated at the hospital for minor injuries. Police suspect that alcohol may have played a part in the collision. Body fluids were obtained in this investigation and sent to the Center of Forensic Sciences in Sault Ste Marie for analysis.

The decision on charges will be made when after a report from the Forensic Science Centre is received.

GOULAIS RIVER MAN BEATEN

Goulais River, Ont.,

A Goulais River man was treated at Sault and Area Hospital after being beaten in his home with a metal object.

On Saturday morning, at about 6:00 a.m., Sault Ste Marie OPP was called to the Sault and Area Hospital after the man was admitted to the hospital with multiple injuries.

The investigation has determined that the man was at his Goulais River home when he invited known acquaintances into his house. In the early morning hours of Saturday, heated discussion took place. The victim was stuck about the head and torso numerous times with the metal object. Police will be seeking a warrant for the arrest of a 36-year-old Goulais River man for Aggravated Assault and Assault with a Weapon.
