LOCAL MAN CHARGE WITH IMPAIRED DRIVING

An O.P.P. officer, travelling to The Sault with a prisoner, stopped to check on a vehicle that had pulled over on Highway 17 in the Goulais River area. The driver, a 30-year-old local man, was found to be driving with a suspended licence. He also appeared to be extremely intoxicated.

He was arrested and turned over to Sault detachment officers. Intoxilyzer tests indicated three times the legal limit of alcohol. He faces charges of impaired driving and having open liquor in his vehicle.


NO INSURANCE COULD BE COSTLY

A Heyden man may just find out how costly having no insurance on his vehicle might be.

At about 3:00 a.m. this morning the man was found operation a pick up truck on Hwy 17 in the Heyden area. Investigation by the officers determined that the truck was not insured and the mans drivers licence was under suspension.

He was charged with Driving Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and Operate a Motor Vehicle with No Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

If he is convicted under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act he may face a MINIMUM fine of $5000.00.

Sixty-one-year old Gerald McDonald of Heyden will appear in court in early February of 2003.

Twenty-five vehicles were checked over the past 24 hours. A Michigan man received a 12-hour suspension. Police are still performing their festive RIDE checks at various unannounced locations.
