MAYBE IF YOU JUST SLOWED DOWN------

Sault Ste Marie, Ont.,

Apart from the two collisions in Echo Bay and Laird Township, Sault Ste Marie OPP investigated six more collisions in the past 24 hours.

All of the remaining six collisions involved single motor vehicles with no other
vehicles were directly or indirectly involved in these collisions.

At 1:00 a.m. this morning police were sent to Hwy 17 east of Echo Bay after another vehicle went into the ditch after trying to pass a snowplow. With the wind and snow causing poor visibility to begin with, this motorist was passing the snowplow on the four-lane section of Hwy 17.

The driver “suddenly” couldn’t see where he was going and lost control of the vehicle. To the little surprise of the plow driver, the vehicle went into the ditch. The driver wasn’t hurt but he now spent some of his Christmas money on a tow call.

OPP believe that most of these collisions could be avoid if people just slowed down and drove according to the weather conditions. Most drivers can see that the weather conditions are poor and that the roadways are snow covered and slippery. It is the few drivers that refuse to slow down that injury themselves or other because they just won’t slow down.
