POOR CONDITIONS SLOWS SEARCH FOR DROWNING VICTIM

Ranger Lake, Ont.,

The search for 47-year-old John Robert FARRELL of Sault Ste Marie will continue today. Mr. Farrell went missing after his snow machine went through the ice on Camp 10 Bay on the north side of Ranger Lake on Saturday.

The lack of road access to the bay and very poor ice conditions has slowed the search. OPP divers, and the OPP helicopter are returning to the scene this morning.

A specially designed airboat owned by the Sault Ste Marie Fire Department is the only rescue craft able to safely access the area with the recovery divers. An aircraft propeller powers the boat and the design of the vessel makes it able to cross both ice and water.

Late yesterday afternoon Bernard Farrell, the brother who was with John Farrell, was taken back to the scene by OPP helicopter to help indicated the exact location where the two brothers went through the ice.
