SABLES-SPANISH RIVERS TWP, ON - On Friday, Sept. 28, 2018 an officer from the Manitoulin-Espanola Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducing traffic patrols on Main Street in the Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers, Ontario.
At approximately 3:25 a.m., the officer observed a traffic violation and conducted a traffic stop.
The officer located firearms and suspected methamphetamine within the vehicle. Investigation revealed that the occupants of the vehicle were unauthorized to possess firearms. OPP seized the firearms and suspected controlled drug.
As a result, Cheristy Syrette, age 38, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario has been charged with:
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm - four counts, contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code (CC); and with
- Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC.
Nicole Breton, age 43, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario has been charged with:
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm - four counts, contrary to section 91(1) of the CC;
- Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC; and with
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance - methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Both accused are scheduled to appear at the Provincial Court of Justice in Espanola, Ontario on Nov. 5, 2018.
