Controlled Explosion Causes Problems

Living near a construction site can be hazardous to your house!

At approximately 6:30 last night the construction company working on a section of the new highway near Government Road in MacDonald Township set off an explosion. While the timing of the explosion can be controlled rather precisely, the landing spot of some of the rock blasted from its resting place is somewhat less predictable. Prior notification had been given to area residents of the impending explosion but the warning could not prevent a few stray rocks landing in an occupied yard. A couple of rocks described as being the size of a fist landed on the ground. A larger rock, being likened to the size of someone’s head, went through the roof of the residence. Needless to say no, one is pleased.

The Ministry of Labour has been contacted and the investigation will continue.

Seatbelt Facts

A few facts about seatbelts. Seatbelts save lives. No need to regurgitate the statistics; we all know that seatbelts do the job there were designed to do. Severity of injuries and numbers of fatalities are reduced when seatbelts are worn. Couple seatbelt usage with vehicles equipped with air bags and these figures improve yet again. Common sense should dictate that, without prompting or legislation, all of us will buckle up every time we are in a motor vehicle. It should also be automatic that we will ensure that our children and the children of others, who ride with us in our cars, are safely restrained when we are driving on our highways and by-ways. Sadly we have demonstrated that common sense is fallible and thusly there is legislation to prompt common sense into making the right choice.

If you are a driver of a motor vehicle in the province of Ontario you are required to wear a seatbelt. If you are a passenger, over the age of 16 years of age, in a motor vehicle being driven in the province of Ontario you are required to wear a seatbelt. If you are the driver of a motor vehicle in the province of Ontario carrying passengers under the age of sixteen years you must ensure that those passengers are properly restrained.

We are all very good drivers and none of us will ever cause an accident requiring the testing of the above mentioned safety equipment! The preceding message is for those who are not one of ‘US’ and may inadvertently set in motion a series of events causing the utilization of such safety equipment. Be Safe!!!
