FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT NEAR SAULT Goulais River A Sault Ste. Marie man has died as a result of a head on collision on Pineshores Road in Goulais River last night. At about 7:45 p.m., a westbound motorcycle and a Ford Probe collided head on.

A Sault Ste. Marie man has died as a result of a head on collision on Pineshores Road in Goulais River last night.

At about 7:45 p.m., a westbound motorcycle and a Ford Probe collided head on. The driver of the motorcycle, 53-year-old James Barbet was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the two occupants of the Ford was injured.

The Goulais River Fire and Rescue and Area Ambulance as well as the Sault O.P.P. were called to the accident. Pineshores Road was closed to traffic until 4:30 this morning to allow for the investigation. The accident occurred about 1.5 km from the intersection of Pineshores and Highway 17.

Both the motorcycle and the car have extensive damage and have been seized for expert examination. Police say it will be several days before any further details are known.
