UPDATE TO MAJOR COLLISION NORTH OF SAULT STE MARIE

Officers from the Sault Ste Marie OPP remain at the scene of a collision on Hwy 17 at Alona Bay some 110 kms north of Sault Ste Marie. Alona Bay is located 10 kms south of Montreal River.

Revised information from the scene indicates that there are three tractor trailers and two passenger cars involved in the collision. Earlier reports of four tractor trailers involved in the collision was incorrect.

Officers on the scene are reporting very icy road conditions in that area. As a result of this collision, there is a report of a fuel spill from the trucks that has added a further complication to the highway conditions.

The debris from this collision has blocked the highway completely. Tow trucks and salvage equipment are on the scene. The OPP expects the highway to remain closed for many more hours

There still is no information on any injuries.

None of the trucks is carrying any dangerous goods.
