Manitoulin Island Drug Search Warrants

On the 3rd of November 2005 members of the Manitoulin Island Crime Unit, with the assistance of the Joint Forces drug unit which include the OPP Drug Enforcement Section, the Greater Sudbury Police Service, the RCMP and the OPP Northeast Region executed 2 Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrants at two residences located in Meldrum Bay on Manitoulin Island. Police located 41 Cannabis Marihuana plants, approximately 7 ounces of Cannabis Marihuana and grow related equipment. Total potential street value of the Controlled Substances seized is estimated at $42,680.00. Total value of the grow related equipment is estimated at $5,000.00

One person is being sought in this investigation.

Police investigation is continuing.

Charges Laid In Fatal Crash

Garden River First Nation, Ont., The investigation into a fatal collision on Hwy 17 in the Garden River First Nation Territory this past summer is complete and charges have been laid.

On Thursday August 4, 2005 a head on collision on Hwy 17 in Garden River claimed the life of twenty year old Katherine Kervin of Frankville, Ontario.

It is alleged that a pick up truck was traveling westbound on Hwy 17 and crossed the center line striking the Kervin vehicle. Three other people were injured in the crash and sent to Sault and Area Hospital.

The driver of the pick up truck, sixty nine year old Fernand DELAROSBIL of Sault Ste Marie has been charged with Careless Driving and Fail to Share Roadway contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. Mr. Delarosbil will appear in Sault Ste Marie Provincial Offences Court on Wed 18 January 2006.
