Shoplifting is a Crime! (Elliot Lake, Ont.) On March 7, 2006 at approximately 1:51 p.m. the OPP received a call to attend a local grocery store regarding a possible theft.

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On March 7, 2006 at approximately 1:51 p.m. the OPP received a call to attend a local grocery store regarding a possible theft.

On scene, police learned that the suspect had taken items from the store and had allegedly left without paying.

Charged with Theft Under is Nancy Ann HALL (53) of Elliot Lake. HALL is scheduled to appear in court on April 4th, 2006.

Counterfeit Currency Surfaces In Elliot Lake

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP is presently investigating the surfacing of a counterfeit $20.00 bill.

The currency bearing serial # BN13521874 was received at a local grocery store. Upon further examination of this bill police noted it to be smaller in size and of poor quality.

Two Charged After Search Warrant Executed

On March 8th, 2006, the OPP Joint Forces Drug Unit, which consists of members from the OPP Drug Enforcement Section, OPP North East Region, Sault Ste Marie Police Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrant on an apartment located at 24 Mississauga Ave in Elliot Lake. With the assistance of the East Algoma OPP, police located an elaborate indoor marihuana grow operation in the apartment. Fifty (50) marihuana plants and approximately ½ pound of processed marihuana bud was seized.

The estimated street value of these drugs is $57,000.00.

Two adults were arrested and later released. Charged with Production of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of a Controlled Substance is Norman HAMILTON (46) and Pauline CHENIER (49) of Elliot Lake.

HAMILTON and CHENIER are scheduled to appear in court on a later date.

Hwy 17 Re-Opened

Highway 17, east of Sault Ste. Marie near the Garden River First Nation Territory has fully re-opened. One person was brought to hospital in Sault Ste. Marie. Her condition has improved to non-life threatening.

Hwy 17 Closed - 3 Vehicle Crash

Members of the OPP Detachment in Sault Ste. Marie have responded to a three-vehicle crash resulting in serious injury for one, and minor injuries to two persons. Highway 17 near Garden River First Nation Territory east of Sault Ste. Marie has been closed at the Root River Bridge.

Assisting in the investigation is an OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator.
