Aweres Twp., One person was taken to hospital by ambulance last night after a collision involving a moose and a car on Hwy 17 north of Sault Ste Marie.

Last night at about 11:00 p.m. a vehicle was northbound on Hwy 17 at the bottom of Mile Hill 20 kms north of Sault Ste Marie. The vehicle struck the moose and the driver was injured. She was taken to Sault and Area Hospital by ambulance. The combined wreckage of the car and the dead moose blocked the highway for a short period of time.

The car had to be towed from the scene. The driver, a Goulais River woman, was treated at hospital for minor injuries


Two Bear Calls

Echo Bay, Ont., Sault Ste Marie OPP were called to attend at two separate residences last night for two separate bear calls.

Just after 11:00 p.m. a person on Echo River Road in Echo Bay called police about a bear around her property. The occupant of the house wanted to get to her car parked in the driveway but there was a bear wandering around the lot. She didn’t know the exactly where the bear was so she called police for assistance.

Officers attended the scene but the bear was not in sight. She was able to get to her vehicle safely.
