RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE LEADS TO NUMEROUS OTHER CHARGES
Garden River First Nation, Ont.,

Batchawana First Nation Police and the Anishinabek Police Service recovered a van stolen from the city of Sault Ste Marie and the charges are still mounting

Last night at about 12:30 a.m., an officer with the Batchawana First Nation Police spotted the stolen van traveling east on Hwy 17 near the east city limits. The officer called for the assistance of another cruiser. An officer from the Anishinabek Police Service was ahead of the stolen vehicle. When the Batchawana officer attempted to pull the van over, it pulled into a driveway on the Garden River First Nation. Two male occupants of the van were arrested.

It was very obvious that the diver of the stolen vehicle was impaired by alcohol. It was also learned that this van may have been used in a break and enter last night in the city. Computer parts found in the van confirmed that the van was used in the break and enter.

The two thieves were returned to the Sault Ste. Marie O.P.P. office where the driver failed to provide a breathalyzer sample.

The driver is facing charges of theft, possession of stolen property, impaired driving, and failing to provide a breath sample. The Sault Ste. Marie City Police are also continuing their investigation into the break and enter in their area.

Two males, aged 23 and 25 from Sault Ste Marie, will appear in Bail Court this afternoon to answer to these charges.
