Echo Bay, Ont., A seventeen year old Echo Bay youth will start the summer in bail court after being arrested last night for a break and enter.

At about 8:00 p.m. last night officers with the Sault Ste Marie OPP were called to the Elk’s Hall in Echo Bay after staff discovered the hall had been broken into. A quantity of liquor and beer were reported stolen.

The investigations resulted in officers taking a 17 year old Echo Bay youth into custody for the break and enter. He will appear in bail court this morning charged with one count of Break and Enter and one count of Fail to Comply with a Sentence or Disposition.

Suspended Driver

Goulais River, Ont.,Officers with the Sault OPP have charged a Goulais River man with driving while his licence is under suspension.

Officers stopped a log truck just off Hwy 17 yesterday and discovered that the driver’s ability to operate a vehicle had been suspended by the Ministry of Transportation.

Thirty five year old Roger MITCHELL of Goulais River has been charged with Driving While Under Suspension. He will appear in Provincial Offences Court in about one month.

4 Bear Calls

Heyden, Ont., Sault Ste Marie OPP were called to four different bear calls in different areas of the our detachment.

The first call came in at about 8:00 a.m. yesterday morning. A bear was again seen in the Rupert Acres Plaza area near a school bus stop. The bear was not in the area when the bus arrived.

The second call was received at about 12:00 noon. This bear was spotted on Nebenaigoching Street on the Batchawana First Nation.

Call number three was received from a homeowner on Hwy 556 in Heyden. A woman was at home when she heard a noise outside. She indicated the bear was trying to get in the door of the home. When officers arrived they saw the animal running from the area.

And finally the forth call was received at about 4:00 a.m. this morning. A resident of Jody Lane in Heyden told officers that a bear was sitting on the front porch eating garbage. Dogs barking in the area may have scared the bear away. Officers patrolled the area but were unable to find the bear.

In all cases the property owners were advised to call the MNR Bear Hot Line to report these sightings.
