“HOGGING” THE HIGHWAY IN SEARCHMONT

Searchmont, Ont., Motorists traveling on Hwy 556 just south of Searchmont experienced a rare traffic jam yesterday afternoon.

Yesterday afternoon at about 12:30 p.m. an officer with the Sault Ste Marie OPP Detachment rounded one of the curves on Hwy 556 just south of Searchmont to find westbound traffic backed up and moving at walking speed.

Leading the traffic jam was a whip wielding, pajama clad local Searchmont resident attempting to coral a very large pig off the highway and back into it’s pen on the owners property. The animal had apparently escaped the confines of it pen and the whip-wielding woman was trying to “save its bacon”. After some poking, prodding, pushing and pulling the large pig was eventually persuaded to “ham it up” in the pen and not on the highway.
