ANOTHER VICTIM OF SEXUAL ASSUALT COMES FORWARD

The Sault Ste Marie OPP Crime Unit have laid yet another series of sex related charges against Goulais River resident Robert Lemieux.

Mr. Lemieux first came to the attention of police in November of this year after detectives from the Child Abuse Unit of the Winnipeg Police Service came to this area to investigate a series of dated sexual assaults. As a result of their investigation Mr. Lemieux was charged with several dated sexual assaults against young boys in and around the Winnipeg area.

Yesterday detectives from the Sault Ste Marie OPP Crime Unit arrested and charged Robert Lemieux with two additional counts of sexual assault. These alleged incidents are believed to have occurred in the Algoma District.

In this series of charges it is alleged that Mr. Lemieux assaulted the male victim on numerous occasions between 1963 and 1964 when the victim was ten years old. Mr. Lemieux has been charged with one count of Indecent Assault and one count of Gross Indecency.

He was released from custody, with conditions, and he will appear in court in Sault Ste Marie on January 12 2004 to answer to these charges.

VAN- MOOSE COLLISION

Montreal River, Ont.
A man from British Columbia struck and killed a moose on Hwy 17 in the Montreal River area last night.

At about 7:00 p.m. the man was southbound on Hwy 17 when the moose wandered into the path of his mini van. The mini van had extensive damage but the man was able to continue on his way to Sault Ste Marie. No one was injured in the collision.
