Motorists traveling eastbound on Highway 17 East will be re-routed to Church Street in Echo Bay, to Pioneer Road to Watson’s Road, to Government Road and then to Bar River Road.

Motorists traveling westbound on Highway 17 will be re-routed from highway 17 to Bar River Road, Government Road, to Watson’s Road, to Pioneer Road and then to Church Street and back onto highway 17.

Tractor trailer’s that are eastbound will be re-routed to from highway 17 to Church Street in Echo Bay to highway 638 to Bruce Mines.

Tractor trailer’s traveling west bound will be re-routed from highway 17 at Bruce Mines to highway 638, to Church Street, to highway 17.

Updates again, will be sent out as information becomes available.

Serious Motor Vehicle Collision Closes Highway 17 East Near Echo Bay

Officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment are currently investigating a motor vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer and a motorcycle approximately 2 kilometers east of Echo Bay. The highway is closed in both directions at this time.

No further information is available at this time.

Police Investigating Possible Break Outs and Theft!

The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating several break and enters in our community. On August 23, 2006 at approximately 1:30 a.m. police received a call to attend Moose Lodge on Oakland Boulevard regarding a possible break and enter. On scene police located a point of exit and noted two empty cash registers missing. Later the same morning at approximately 4:30 a.m. police received a call to re-attend the lodge regarding a possible alarm. Investigation revealed that unknown suspect(s) removed from the bar area, two small boxes with an undisclosed amount of coin.

Later that evening at approximately 8:57 p.m. the OPP received a call to attend Soo Mill Buildall regarding an alarm. Police learned that a manager had just left the store approximately 15 minutes prior to receiving the alarm call. A check of the building revealed that the unknown culprit(s) may have been in the store when the building was locked and the alarm was set. A small amount of undisclosed money was taken.

The OPP is strongly advising all businesses to check their premises thoroughly before closing for the night.
