Two Injured in Collision On Highway 69

(Sudbury, Ontario) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police are continuing their investigation into a collision involving two tractor-trailers that occurred yesterday afternoon around 4:30 p.m. on Highway 69 at the French River Supply Post Road (just north of the French River bridge), Bigwood Township.

At this point of the investigation, it appears that the driver of southbound tractor-trailer failed to recognize a stopped pick-up truck waiting to turn left. When the driver of the pick-up realized she was about to be rear-ended, she took evasive action driving off the roadway to the southbound shoulder. The tractor-trailer driver then braked abruptly, causing his trailer to jackknife and swing into the path of a northbound tractor-trailer.

Both tractor-trailer drivers were taken to St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Sudbury and suffering from serious but non-life threatening injuries. The female driver of the pick-up truck was not injured.

Due to a diesel spill, the Ministry of Environment was notified and a spill response contractor from Sudbury attended for clean up.

The highway was reopened to traffic in both directions at 10:30 p.m.

The investigation is continuing.
