Collision Claims Lives Of Twin Brothers

Chapleau ON – The Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a single motor vehicle collision which occurred on Sunday 10 July 2005 at approximately 12:30 PM, on the Sultan Industrial Road at the Old Woman River Bridge.

The collision location is 26 km east of the community of Sultan.

A van was being operated westbound on the Sultan Industrial Road when the driver lost control entering a curve on the road, immediately prior to approaching the Old Woman River bridge.

The van crossed the highway and traveled down a steep embankment where it flipped and came to rest on his roof in approximately 8 feet of water.

The driver and 2 passengers were able to escape the vehicle. The two remaining occupants did not get out of the van.

The deceased are both from Toronto, but the names are not being released pending notification of the next of kin. The cause of death has not been determined, an autopsy is to be conducted on 11 July 2005.

The driver and 2 other passengers were transported to Chapleau General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The collision continues to be under investigation.
