Stunt driving charge follows traffic stop

BLIND RIVER - On Dec. 29, 2017, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment were on patrol duties on Highway 17 in the  Town of Blind River.

Shortly before 1:30 a.m., police observed a westbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed near the junction of Birchwood Circle and Highway 17. The officer locked in a speed of over 50 kilometers over the posted 90 km/h. A traffic stop was initiated and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

As a result of the investigation, Michael Nolan, 44 years of age from Garden River First Nation, Ontario, was charged with: Drive Motor Vehicle-Perform Stunt-Speeding by 50 or more kilometres per hour, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on February 21, 2018.
