Sault man asked to 'hand over his radar detector' by police in Blind River

BLIND RIVER - On April 2, 2018, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m., police observed an eastbound vehicle proceeding through an amber light at the junction of Causley Street and Hawkins Street and a traffic stop was initiated. As the officer was speaking to the male driver, he observed a mounting bracket on the windshield and asked the driver to hand over his radar detector.

As a result of the investigation, Thanh Long Vu, 43 years of age from Sault Ste Marie, Ont. was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:
    •    Amber light - fail to stop, contrary to section 144(15) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and with
    •    Drive motor vehicle with speed measuring warning device, contrary to section 79(2) of the HTA.
