FATAL ACCIDENT AT IRON BRIDGE (updated at 8:00 p.m.) An Ohio resident returning from a summer home on Manitoulin Island was killed in a vehicle accident shortly after 4:00 p.m. yesterday.

An Ohio resident returning from a summer home on Manitoulin Island was killed in a vehicle accident shortly after 4:00 p.m. yesterday.

A mini van driven by 70-year-old Donald Grimm of Toledo, Ohio, was westbound on Highway 17 when, for an unknown reason, he crossed the centre line into tie path of an eastbound van and trailer driven by a 28-year-old Kitchener resident, Craig Schindler.

The eastbound vehicle went into the ditch where it stopped and the Grimm vehicle stopped against the guardrail in the eastbound lane. The Bruce Mines Fire Department was called to the scene to extricate Mr. Grimm from his vehicle. Grimm was pronounced dead at the scene. Schindler and two passengers were not injured.

Traffic was held up for some time on Highway 17 and some was rerouted via Hwy 129 to Iron Bridge and others through side roads to avoid delays.
