SERIOUS INJURIES SUSTAINED IN ST. JOSEPH ISLAND COLLISION (St.
SERIOUS INJURIES SUSTAINED IN ST. JOSEPH ISLAND COLLISION

(St. Joseph Island, Ontario) Members of the East Algoma OPP Detachment with the assistance of a Reconstructionist and the Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are currently investigating a serious farm tractor collision that occurred on St. Joseph Island.

At approximately 11:00 am yesterday, a farm tractor was pulling a trailer northbound on the A-Line with a load of wood blocks and three passengers. The trailer broke loose from the tractor throwing the three occupants from the trailer. The trailer came to rest on its side in the east ditch. The farm tractor was being used for personal use at the time.

Marlene SPENCE, age 30 of St. Joseph Island sustained critical injuries as a result of the accident. She was transported to St. Joseph Island Hospital by ambulance and then transferred to the Sault Area Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

One-year-old Josh SPENCE and Shawn SPENCE , age 30, suffered minor injuries. Both were treated at St. Joseph Island Hospital and released.

The driver of the farm tractor was not injured in the collision.

One lane of the A-Line remains open. This accident remains under investigation.


NOT A GOOD NIGHT TO BE A DEER !!

Sault Ste Marie OPP were called to Hwy 17 On the Garden River First Nation twice last night to investigate two car and deer collisions.

The first collision happened at about midnight when a deer ran out in front of a car on Hwy 17 near the Root River Bridge. The deer was killed as a result of the collision but no one in the car was injured.

The second collision happened about one hour later in the same area. In this incident the deer was killed and no one in the car was injured. Both vehicles in these collisions had to be towed from the scene.


STOLEN TRUCK RECOVERED
Garden River First Nation, Ont

Members of the Batchawana First Nation Police and the Anishinabek Police Service have one male in custody after checking a pick-up truck early this morning.

At about 3:30 a.m. the officers spotted a truck on Echo River Road with no tail lights. The 1990 Chev pick- up was report stolen earlier in the evening from the City of Sault Ste Marie. Police have one 18-year-old male in custody.
