TWO CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH 17 EAST TRADING POST ARMED ROBBERY

(Desbarats, Ontario) At approximately 9:30 pm on June 20, 2006 two suspects were apprehended in relation to the armed robbery that occurred at the 17 East Trading Post earlier in the evening. The 17 East Trading Post is located at the junction of Highway 17 and Highway 548 (St. Joseph Island Turnoff).

1) Jordan William HURD (21), last known address of Echo Bay, Ontario has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

Firearm – Use while committing offence – Section 85(1)(a)
Robbery with Firearm – Section 344(a)
Point Firearm – Section 87
Unauthorized Possession of Weapon – Section 91(2)
Careless Use of Firearm – Section 86(1)
Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose – Section 88

2) Stephen James WARD (20), last known address of Echo Bay, Ontario has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

Robbery with Firearm – Section 344(a)
Firearm – use while committing offence – Section 85(1)(a)

The two accused have been remanded to the Algoma Treatment Remand Center to attend a bail hearing on June 22, 2006 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
