Goulais River, Ont Officers with the Sault Ste Marie OPP have recovered the antique wood stove that was reported stolen from a break and enter in Goulais River on 20 June 2005.

As a result of the extensive media coverage received on this unusual theft, police received excellent assistance from the general public and Crime Stoppers.

Officers attended a residence on Hwy 552 not far from Grant Road. As a result of speaking with the homeowner at that residence he admitted to taking the stove. The man advised officers that he took the stove apart and removed the stove from the camp in pieces. He further indicated that because of the extensive media coverage he moved the stove to a second location in the City of Sault Ste Marie.

Officers accompanied the suspect to a home in the east end of Sault Ste Marie and recovered all the pieces of the stove.

A forty-nine (49) year old Goulais River man will be charged with possession of Stolen Property under $5000.

Moose Takes Out Two Vehicles - One Injured

Pancake Bay, Ont., An early morning collision sent one person to hospital and saw a moose get hit twice by two separate vehicles on Hwy 17 in the Pancake Bay area and.

On Friday morning, just after midnight, two vehicles were southbound on Hwy 17 just south of the Pancake River Bridge.

The first vehicle, a 2003 Chrysler Intrepid, struck the moose and the moose fell in the middle of the roadway. A second southbound vehicle, a 1997 pick up truck struck the moose as it lay in the roadway.

The driver of the first vehicle was taken to Sault and Area Hospital by ambulance for minor injuries. The first vehicle had to be towed from the scene. No one in the second vehicle was injured and the driver was able to drive the truck from the area.

Disturbance Leads To More Charges

Batchawana First Nation, Ont., Officers with the Sault OPP have charged a Batchawana First Nation man with damaging a cruiser and resisting arrest.

Officers were called to Nebenaigoching Street on the territory just after midnight on Friday. Officers encountered an intoxicated person yelling up and down the street. After several attempts to calm the man officers attempted to take him into custody. He resisted being arrested and ripped an antenna off the cruiser.

Forty two (42) year old William CHORNOBEY of the Batchawana First Nation is charged with Resist Arrest and Mischief under $5000.00.


Goulais Mission Break And Enters

Goulais Mission, Ont., Sault OPP are investigation two break and enters into seasonal homes in the Goulais Mission area.

Two homes in the 2400 area of Goulais Mission Road were entered. Alcohol is reported missing from one of the homes. The owner of the other house is unable to determine if anything is missing at this time.

Disturbing The Peace

Batchawana First Nation, Ont., Sault Ste Marie OPP responded to a report of at least seven people fighting outside an apartment complex on Frontenac Street on the Batchawana First Nation.

At about 3:00 a.m. on Friday morning officers arrived at the complex and dispersed the crowd. A 24 year old Batchawana First Nation man was taken into custody for being drunk in a public place. He was released from police custody later in the morning.
