SNOWMACHINE COLLISION CLAIMS ONE LIFE

(Villeneuve Township, North of Thessalon, Ontario) On Saturday February 4, 2006 shortly before 1:00 pm the East Algoma Thessalon OPP were advised of a snowmachine collision approximately 120 kilometers North of Thessalon on Black Creek Road, also known as the F-Trail.

Mark JONES (38) of Shingleton, Michigan was pronounced dead at the scene.

JONES was operating a 700 Polaris snowmachine westbound on the F-Trail when he failed to negotiate a curve, leaving the trail and striking a tree. The snowmachine was demolished in the collision.

Members from the East Algoma Thessalon OPP and a Technical Traffic Collision Investigator (TTCI) attended the scene.

A post mortem will be conducted in Sault Ste. Marie on Monday February 6, 2006.

The weather at the time of the collision was overcast.

The investigation is continuing.

No further information will be released until after the conclusion of the post mortem.

Investigation Continues ito Stabbing

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) - Police are continuing their investigation in regards to a stabbing that occurred on February 4, 2006 at approximately 2:44 p.m. in the area of Mississauga Avenue.

Four people have been arrested – an 18-year-old male, an 19-year-old male, a 35-year-old female and a 17-year-old female.

All four remain in custody.

Name and charges will be released at a later time.

The Young Offenders name will not be released as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Investigation continuing.

2:48 p.m. - One injured during altercation

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) - The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating a stabbing.

Police were called [today, Saturday] February 4 at approximately 2:44 a.m. to attend the area of Mississauga Avenue regarding unknown persons fighting.

Investigation revealed that one person had been stabbed during the altercation.

The victim was transported to the St Joseph Hospital and is been listed as stable.

Police have arrested two males and are continuing their investigation.

The name of the victim and the accused are not being released at this time.
