(Northeastern Ontario) The Festive R.I.D.E. weekly results provide an invaluable opportunity to remind the public that drinking and driving continues to be a road safety issue.

During Week 1 of the North East Region Festive R.I.D.E. Initiative (Nov. 29 - Dec. 6, 2001) 24,463 vehicles were checked. OPP officers issued 22, 12-hour suspensions, 9 Administrative Driver's Licence Suspensions (ADLS) while 11 drivers were charged with impaired. Officers laid 83 other charges during the check point stops (CC, HTA, LLA etc.). There were 116 collisions across the region and two people died as a result of those collisions.
