Fatal motor vehicle collision
Members of the East Algoma - Thessalon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 17 approximately 15 kilometers east of The Town of Thessalon.

At approximately 6 p.m. yesterday, two vehicles were travelling eastbound on Highway 17, when the lead vehicle, a 1999 Chevrolet Venture Van left the pavement and entered the gravel shoulder.

The lead vehicle lost control and returned to the pavement, striking the second vehicle, a 2002 International delivery truck.

The Chevrolet Venture Van rolled over upon entering the ditch, ejecting the unrestrained driver who suffered head injuries.

The injured party was transported to the Thessalon Hospital by Ambulance before being transferred to Hospital in Sault Ste Marie, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The passenger of the lead vehicle and the driver of the second vehicle were uninjured.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

There were no adverse weather condition that contributed to this collision and no charges are anticipated.
