Police respond to stolen gas call, two face numerous charges

HURON SHORES - On Jan. 29, 2018 at approximately 6:40 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft of gas call at a local gas station in the town of Iron Bridge.

The complainant reported a vehicle that had obtained fuel and then departed east bound on Highway 17 without paying. A vehicle and driver/passenger description was provided to police.

The vehicle was later located in the town of Blind River but the driver and passenger were not in it. The vehicle license plate and vehicle were previously reported to police as stolen.

The male driver and female passenger were located at a local motel and were subsequently arrested. 

Joseph Dimarco, 37 years of age, from Hamilton, Ont. was charged with:

  • Theft under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Flight while pursued by peace officer, contrary to section 249.1(1) of the CC,
  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC,
  • Obstruct peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC,
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 - in Canada (12 counts), contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC,
  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC.

Kathleen Mckenna, 35 years of age, from Haldimand County, Ont. was charged with:

  • Theft under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC,
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 - in Canada (thirteen counts), contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC.

Both accused persons were scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River, on Jan. 31, 2018.
