CHAPLEAU – A Chapleau resident is facing charges after a significant amount of money was stolen from another Chapleau resident's home in a break-in.
The Superior East OPP say on July 28, shortly after 8 a.m., officers were notified of a break and enter at a residence on Connaught Street in the community of about 2,000 people northeast of the Sault.
During the break-in, "a large sum of money was taken from inside the residence," the OPP said in a news release.
After an investigation, police say they were able to identify and locate a suspect.
Michel Cote, 47, of Chapleau, was arrested and charged with:
- Break, enter a dwelling house
- Theft over $5,000
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Sept. 18 in Chapleau.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
