Inspector Yves Forget, detachment commander of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment, wants to commemorate Franco-Ontarian Day throughout the province.
On this day each year, the colours green and white are proudly displayed across Ontario to celebrate the Francophone community's cultural, historical, social, economic and political contributions to the province.
The French presence in Ontario dates back over 400 years with the arrival of French explorer Samuel de Champlain to Ontario in 1615. Today, we see nearly 612,000 Francophone people living in Ontario and, outside of Quebec, Ontario has the largest Francophone community in Canada.
Sept. 25 is a time to celebrate your community and its history. The OPP will be honouring this day with the Commissioner's authority to fly the Franco-Ontarian flag outside from Sept. 24 - 28, 2018 at OPP General Headquarters and all Regional and Highway Safety Division headquarters.
The OPP continues to be committed to the provision of French Language Services to Ontarians and providing a workplace that is respectful, supportive and inclusive of all.

La langue française est très répandue et couramment parlée dans ce domaine et la PPO veut reconnaître cette diversité et cette culture importantes," says Inspector Yves Forget.
