Sault Ste Marie OPP are investigating a break and enter over the weekend into a gas bar in Echo Bay.

On Sunday morning at about 4:00 a.m. an OPP officer on patrol found the front window of the gas bar smashed. The owner of the gas bar attended and it was determined that large quantities of cigarettes were stolen.


SEARCHMONT BREAK AND ENTER

Sault Ste Marie OPP were called to a camp on Ranger Lake Road in the Searchmont area on Saturday morning after the owners of the camp discovered that it was broken into.

Sometime between Sept 15 and Sept 26 thieves forced their way into the camp. Some of the stolen items include a generator and a gas grille. The owners also report numerous other smaller items stolen.


FOUR MOTORISTS CAUGHT DRINKING AND DRIVING

A combination of seat belt checks and general patrols over the weekend has resulted in enforcement action against four area men.


On Friday night at about 8:30 p.m. officers from the Sault Ste Marie Traffic and Marine Unit were on patrol of the Searchmont highway.
The driving actions of one motorist caught the attention of the officer. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver was given a roadside breath test. The test indicated a warn and he was issued a 12 hour drivers licence suspension

At 3:30 a.m. on the same evening another OPP officer was traveling on Truck Road in the east end of the city. He noticed a vehicle traveling well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle made a very wide turn onto a side street and pulled into a parking lot. The officer made contact with the driver and very quickly discovered that he was drunk. Further breathalyzer tests confirmed the driver was over the legal limit.

Fifty five year old Michael Hailstone of Sault Ste Marie was charged with Impaired Driving. He was issued a 90 day drivers licence suspension and will appear in court in late October.

On Saturday night at about 9:00 p.m. officers from the Sault Ste Marie Traffic and Marine Unit were conducting a seat belt checks on Hwy 532 near Searchmont. A 48 year old Sault Ste Marie man came through the seat belt spot check and officers noticed that he had been drinking. He was given a roadside breathalyzer and registered a “warn” on the test. He was also given a 12 hour drivers licence suspension.


At about midnight in the same evening, general patrol officers were conducting another seat belt check on Hwy 556 in the Heyden area. Another Sault Ste Marie man came through the spot check and officers realized that he too had been drinking.

He was given the roadside breathalyzer and he registered a fail on the device. He was returned to the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment where a further breathalyzer test confirmed that he was over the legal limit.

Forty two year old Yvan Breton of Sault Ste Marie has been charged with impaired driving. He was issued his 90 day drivers licence suspension and he will appear in court in late October
