Historical Sexual Assault (Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP have charged a former Anglican Priest in relations to a historical sexual assault investigation. The alleged incident occurred between 1969 and 1974 in Elliot Lake.
Historical Sexual Assault

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP have charged a former Anglican Priest in relations to a historical sexual assault investigation. The alleged incident occurred between 1969 and 1974 in Elliot Lake.

Charged with three counts of Sexual Assault is Kenneth Graham GIBBS (72) of Belleville, Ontario.

GIBBS is scheduled to appear in court on November 15th, 2005.

Investigation continuing.

Crossing Guard Victim of Assault

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP has concluded their investigation of an incident that occurred on September 29th, 2005. It is alleged that a school crossing guard while on duty, noticed a small boy being harassed by another youth. The guard attended the area to check on the well being of the young boy when a 14-year-old female confronted the boy and the guard and pushed the guard to the ground.

A14-year-old female, which cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act has been charged with Assault and is scheduled to appear in court on November 14th, 2005.

Several Mail Boxes Broken Into

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The OPP is currently investigating two separate incidents involving mailboxes being tampered with.

The first incident was reported on October 17, 2005. The complainant advised that sometime between 11:30 p.m. on October 16th and 3:00 p.m. October 17th, 2005 unknown person(s) broke into seven (7) mailboxes at 7 Timmins Rd. The culprit(s) also made their way into the laundry room there a washer and dryer coin boxes were also broken into. It’s unknown at this time if any mail was taken.

The second incident was reported on October 19, 2005. The complainant reported that six (6) mailboxes had been pried open. The boxes are located at 113 Hillside Drive North. Unknown person(s) pried the mailboxes open sometime between October 18, 2005 at 6:30 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. on October 19th, 2005. It is unknown at this time if any mail was taken.

Accidental Shooting

(Serpent River, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP has completed their investigating an accidental shooting that occurred on October 18, 2005 at approximately 6:00 p.m.

Police learned that the victim and a friend went fishing and brought with them a .22 rifle in case a partridge was spotted. Upon their return, the victim leaned the gun on a vehicle and the gun slipped firing into the victim’s leg.

The victim was transported to the St. Joseph Hospital in Elliot Lake and later released.

No charges will be laid.

MNR and OPP Joint Forces Blitz Proves Successful

Sault Ste Marie, Ont., A joint enforcement effort between the Ministry of Natural Resources Conservation Officers and the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit in Sault Ste Marie has once again produced excellent results.

Over the weekend officers with both agencies checked hunters both north and east of Sault Ste Marie. At the conclusion of their patrols they produced the following results

Seven people were charged with various drinking offences under the Liquor Licence Act. Most of these offences were drinking in vehicles. Three charges were laid against people who either unable to produce the proper documentation for their firearms or just never bothered to get the proper documents. One person was caught with a loaded firearm in their vehicle.

Three Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act charges were laid and five others received warnings under the same act for their actions. One moose was seized over the weekend and that investigation is still ongoing.

Three drivers were given roadside breathalyzer tests and one person was issued a 12 hour drivers licence suspension. In one stop on Whitman Dam Road north of Searchmont, a man was arrested and charged with Impaired Driving. Three charges of Driving Under Suspension were also laid over the weekend.
