On Sunday October 15, 2006 at approximately 10:15 pm the East Algoma – Blind River OPP were notified about a bear attacking a man outside his residence.

At approximately 9:10 pm Jonathan MARION (23) of Mississauga First Nation (located 3 kilometers west of Blind River, Ontario) stepped outside his residence. As he rounded the corner at the rear of his residence he startled a bear that was rummaging in the garbage. The bear charged at MARION, clawing and tearing his jacket. MARION was able to get inside his residence and away from the bear without sustaining any injuries.

OPP officers attended but the bear had wandered back into the bush. The Ministry of Natural Resources has also been contacted.

Criminal Harassment Charge Laid

Hornepayne, ON

An OPP investigation into a complaint of harassment stemming from a workplace related incident in 2004 has resulted in a criminal charge.

OPP attempts to mediate an end to the ongoing confrontations were not met with success and the unwanted communication continued.

Charged with Criminal Harassment is Laura Medeiros, Third Avenue, Hornepayne. The accused was arrested on October 11, 2006 and released on a Promise to Appear with an Undertaking of Conditions. Medeiros is scheduled to appear in Hornepayne Provincial Court on November 2, 2006.
