Members of the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit teamed up with the Sault Ste Marie City Police over the weekend to conduct the first of many R.I.D.E. checks.

Members of the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit teamed up with the Sault Ste Marie City Police over the weekend to conduct the first of many R.I.D.E. checks.

Late Friday night and into Saturday morning officers from the City Police and the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit set up R.I.D.E. checks throughout the city. Members of the OPP issued three twelve hour drivers licence suspension and one man was charged with impaired driving.

Forty year old Gary Kindred of Sault Ste Marie was checked at one of the spot checks and he was found to be drinking and driving. He was returned to the police station and he failed the breathalyzer tests. He will appear in court in January 2005 to answer to the charges.


Sault Ste Marie OPP investigated only two weather related collisions over the weekend.On Saturday morning two vehicles slid off the roadway and into the ditch. No one was injured in these collisions and damage to the vehicles was minimal. No charges were laid in these collisions.
