OPP Investigating Death Of Woman – MANITOULIN ISLAND

(Zhiibaahaasing First Nation) – Members of the United Chiefs and Council of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police Gore Bay Detachment and Northeast Region Crime Unit, are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman whose body was found at a Zhiibaahaasing First Nation residence on Manitoulin Island early Sunday morning.

On Sunday, November 27, 2005 at approximately 12:10 a.m. police responded to a call for service at the home. Upon arriving at the residence the female occupant was found deceased. She has been identified as 25 year old Mary Ann Davis, of 304 Sagon Road, Zhiibaahaasing First Nation.

A post mortem examination is scheduled for Monday November 28th, 2005 to determine the cause of death.

The investigation is being conducted under the direction of Detective Inspector Larry Reesor, Criminal Investigation Branch, OPP General Headquarters, Orillia.


R.I.D.E. CHECKS CONTINUE TO PRODUCE RESULTS

Sault Ste Marie, Ont.,R.I.D.E. spot checks over the weekend by members of the Sault Ste Marie OPP found several violations.

Members of the Sault OPP conducted spot checks to try to find drivers that still insist on drinking and driving. Eleven different locations throughout the detachment area were selected for the random checks.

As a result of these checks seven roadside Breathalyzer tests were conducted. Three 12 hour drivers licence suspensions were issued, one person was caught with open liquor in his car and four Highway Traffic Act charges were laid. No one was charged with any criminal drinking and driving offences.

For those who successfully went through these spot checks with no violations, officers provided all sober drivers with complimentary Red Ribbons courtesy of MADD Canada.
